Chris Kelly, Kris Kross rapper, dies at 34 in Atlanta hospital

Chris Kelly, one half of the iconic hip-hop duo, Kriss Kross was found dead in his Atlanta home last night, May 1 of an apparent drug overdose. He was 34.

Chris was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at Atlanta Medical Center around 8PM EST.

The mother of rapper Chris Kelly, Donna Kelly Pratte, has told authorities her son became sick after taking cocaine and heroin on the night before he died. TMZ also reported that a combination of cocaine and heroin might have contributed to Chris Kelly’s untimely death, but an officially autopsy is being done today.

According to a Fulton County police report Kelly’s mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, and his uncle told authorities the 34-year-old Kelly had a history of drug abuse and experienced similar episodes in the past.

According to the report, cops responded to Kelly’s home Wednesday afternoon and found the 34-year-old lying on the living room couch.

Kelly died on Wednesday evening, said Dumonder Dawson, an investigator for the medical examiner’s office. He declined to discuss the cause of the rapper’s death.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper reported that Kelly had been found unresponsive at his home and that an autopsy had been scheduled for Thursday morning.

Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith made up Kris Kross, which was best known for the 1992 hit single Jump.
