The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards was an evening of big performances, and even a few surprises. Lady Gaga turned heads yet again as she arrived on the red carpet inside a giant egg, only to be hatched out for her live performance of her new song, ‘Born This Way.’
Cee-Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow raised eyebrows with a rousing performance of ‘Forget You’ alongside puppets from The Jim Henson Company. Rihanna went on stage not once, but twice, teaming up with both Eminem for ‘Love the Way You Lie, Part 2‘ and Drake for ‘What’s My Name?‘
As for the night’s biggest winners, country group Lady Antebellum walked away with five major awards: Best Country Song, Best Country Performance, Best Country Album, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Jazz performer Esperanza Spalding was a surprise winner in the Best New Artist category, edging out more popular nominees, such as Justin Bieber and Drake. Indie rock group Arcade Fire closed out the ceremony by taking home the final award, Best Album of the Year for ‘The Suburbs,’ and following it with an encore performance.
