While touring the world in support of her sophomore LP The Sea, Soul/R&B songstress Corinne Bailey Rae has been working on a covers project of her favorite love songs. The aptly titled ‘The Love EP,’ originally scheduled to drop on January 25th, will be released, digitally only, on Valentine’s Day.
The Love EP kicks off with a cover of Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” and also includes Belly’s “Low Red Moon,” Bob Marley’s “Is This Love?,” a Stevie Wonder influenced take on Paul McCartney’s “My Love” and a Sly & The Family Stone inspired live version of Doris Day’s “Que Sera Sera.”
“I recorded this EP as we traveled, taping a gig in Washington DC, snatching a few hours in an Amsterdam studio, recording backing vocals under a duvet in freezing New York, sweltering in Las Vegas as we couldn’t record with the noisy air-con turned on, editing in the back of a tour bus in Korea and channeling vivid memories of racing around Coachella trying to catch Sly Stone’s performance,” Bailey Rae states.
“Not only is this EP an homage to some of my favorite musicians and a conversation between some of my musical influences, but these tracks are snapshots of my year around the world.”
Bailey Rae co-produced each track on The Love EP with Steve Brown who co- produced Bailey Rae’s latest album The Sea.
