After a year where the only people we heard on the radio were either Nicki Minaj, her labelmate Drake or their boss Lil Wayne, the black Barbie took home both of the Hip Hop related awards at last night’s American Music Awards.
Minaj beat out Lil Wayne and Kanye West to win the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist award. Her Pink Friday album also beat Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop album.
These wins appear to be a little more legitimate compared to her sweeps at recent BET Award shows which some artists claim were fixed for her to win.
“This one could actually make me cry,” Minaj said before she wound up dropping a couple of tears during an acceptance speech. “I can’t believe this is happening.”
Minaj also opened the show performing her hit “Super Bass.” The only artists two win more awards that Minaj this night were country pop princess Taylor Swift and UK soul singer Adele who each took home three trophie
