Denzel Washington has two major items on his pop culture bucket list — and he’s ready to check them off now.
The Oscar winner participated in Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” chat on Friday to promote his new movie “The Equalizer.” When asked about joining one of the most popular franchises in movie history, Washington was surprisingly game. “Would you be interested in being the next James Bond?” The next James Bond?” the actor said. “Yes I would! Who’s doing James Bond now – Daniel Craig!” “Everybody should tweet Denzel is James Bond!” he added. “We start the Denzel is Bond campaign today!”
It’s hard to tell if he was genuine or joking about wanting to play 007. But fans have taken Washington at his word, and started the hashtag. The “Training Day” star was also asked why he hasn’t ever hosted “Saturday Night Live.” That’s a good question,” he responded. “I need to do that!”. “Call NBC and tell them Denzel needs to host!”
With Craig signed on for two more Bond films after 2012‘s “Skyfall,” it doesn’t seem likely that Washington will be tapped to play the suave super-spy anytime soon. But with a new movie to promote, perhaps the star will stop by “SNL,” especially since the sketch comedy show celebrates its 40th anniversary this season.
“The Equalizer” will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, and hits theaters nationwide Sept. 26.
