R&B singer T-Pain released debut album Rappa Ternt Sanga (“rapper turned singer”) in 2005, and has since become the king of ringtone sales and one of the most dominant performers in the US charts.
First single “I’m Sprung” reached No.8 in the Hot 100, before “I’m N Luv (Wit a Stripper)” reached No.5 and sold an incredible five million ringtones. T-Pain’s star was already rising fast, and 2007 saw more huge success for him. His first Hot 100 chart-topper came with “Buy U a Drank”, which also went on to sell over two million ringtones, and second single “Bartender” (featuring Akon) hit No.5.
His Epiphany album topped the charts, selling over 170,000 copies in its first week, and he also featured on several successful tracks by other artists: “Kiss Kiss” with Chris Brown was another Hot 100 No.1, while Plies’ “Shawty”, “Cyclone” by Baby Bash, Kanye West’s “Good Life”, and the Flo-Rida song “Low” were all Top 10 hits too, each one featuring a guest appearance from T-Pain. At the beginning of November 2007, T-Pain had a total of nine songs in the Hot 100: seven were in the Top 50, and three were in the Top 10.
Despite T-Pain’s claims to love strippers and bartenders, he actually has a wife and two children: a daughter called Lyriq and a son called Musiq.
